PHILIP RANKIN IS....

a pianist, electronic musician, composer, producer and educator based out of Los Angeles, CA

He has been recording and performing under the name oneL since 2018, where he explores building connections between the chaotic and unpredictable nature of modular synthesis and the rich harmonic language of modern jazz and new music. Whether that is through the cinematic soundscape of the oneL Sextet, or the spinning sequences of ØCOASTensemble, Phil aspires to have his music connect to something deeper in the human experience…a melodic connection to the heart.

Tracks 1-5, "Side A," were recorded with keyboards, guitars, synthesizers, and guitars pedals that I began acquiring rate since the Summer of'17

Tracks 6-8 "Side B" were recorded after the acquisition of my Modular synth. They are mainly performed using my Make Noise Morphagene, a voltage-controlled sampler as central focus of the compositions. Along with my Make Noise Ø-Coast and Arturia Microbrute.
